Stellaris jump drive vs hyperdrive
This has honestly been the hardest opening paragraph to compose since I started writing for Jump Dash Roll. There have been no fewer than six iterations of this introduction. I had this grand speech all typed up about how PC gaming took a fraction of the coordinated skill of console gaming, how modern gaming focused too much on FPS and not the vast world building strategies of yesteryear.
There does seem to be some sort of delay on the way — it’s more hyperdrive than jump drive. But essentially the TARDIS disappears here, flies through the Time Vortex, and reappears there. These are also marked as dangerous where as normal jump drives are not, this could be because they are "better" than normal jump drives. The upgrades increase warp speed and distance noticeably. Fully upgraded warp drives almost feel like jump drives: their range is almost as high as a jump drive, and shares the no infrastructure or lane requirement, the big difference being the cooldown period between warps and the non-instantaneous travel between systems. The warp drive is limited because it actually could exist under our current understanding of physics. So while hyperdrives in star wars are infinitely more powrfull than warp drives in star trek, the comparison is a nonsensical one. It's like pointing out that the TARDIS is faster than the space shuttle--DUH.

They are only a slightly longer range than the wormholes at this point, and take way longer when traveling. Psi Jump Drives can be researched by anyone, although it is massively easier if you are Spiritualist or Fanatic Spiritualist and basically impossible if you are Materialist at These are also marked as dangerous where as normal jump drives are not, this could be because they are "better" than normal jump drives. Hyperdrives, like the other two (starting) FTL methods, have three levels of engines, and if the first starting one takes 15 days to recharge, that would put a 50% reduction at around 7.5 days for the Mk III. And Psi Jump are basically 5th tier: +50% Jump range, and -80% Hyperdrive charge time (vs. +0% Jump range and -70% Hyperdrive charge time for regular Jump drive).
